That’s why these amazing and highly talented YouTubers have fans only because of their talent and content and not by wearing fancy costumes and enormous sets. Sometimes on such online platforms, it is okay not to have a perfect costume. But if you are going to perform at an event or going to be on national television, the costume does impact your performance.

In abhinaya darpana ( mirror of acting) the 4th aspect of acting or theatre is “Aharya abhinaya”, which indicates the costumes and makeup of the performer. So, in such cases a perfect costume is necessary.

Colors

The most basic aspect of choosing the perfect dance costume is your perfect color. Now the color of the dance costumes always depends on what kind of backdrop or background you are using. Usually, the backdrop of any theatre or auditorium is black or navy blue. So, it is best to avoid such colors as the matching colors can immerse with each other and that can’t be a pretty sight for the audience.

Unless you want to camouflage the colors according to your play or act, go for it. So, which colors to choose? If you are a classical dancer or a singer, go for good bright colors which match your skin tone. Pastel shades are mostly a no-no for stage performances. Because the strong lights may lower the quality of your appearance.

Also, while facing the camera best is to use pastel shades. Because the lights are comparatively softer than the stage lights. So, pastel shades can work best in these situations.

If you are shooting with a chroma key background it is obvious to avoid greens or blues depending upon the background color.

Material is the key to a perfect dance costume

Silk is great for stage performance. As the shine of the material gives an amazing look and you can downsize the number of accessories or jewelry as silk itself has its own shimmery texture.

If you are facing the camera, the cotton material works the best as the matte finish enhances the look of a performer. Here, you can accessorize a little bit to uplift your appearance.

Patterns
