Human being social animal is always in need of connecting people and interacting with them. Dance has played an important role in building a community. So, let us understand in this blog how dance forms social connections and builds a community.

How dance grows social connection

It is a psychological need of every human being to interact with other people and form their own group. “Birds of a feather flock together”, meaning people with similar interests always forms a group and ultimately build a Community.

Dance, right from mythology has been a source of entertainment. The stories performed are mostly about mythology and culture. Dance is a medium of storytelling and engaging the audience through eye-catching gestures and relatable acts.

Even today dance is a source of celebration, entertainment, and now fitness. The performer’s skill is to include the audience and keep them engaged during the entire performance.

There is a number of occasions where we have included dance as a source of celebration or entertainment.

The same happens during parties, celebrating by dancing together at clubs and pubs is a medium to grow bonds between friends and have a good time.

Teaching

Another example of building a social connection is Teaching. Passing our cultural inheritance to the new generation is a great way to build a community and disperse our art form. It is a slow process. However, the teacher interacts with students and teaches about our heritage and art form.

Dance performances and events

Social events where a dancer or performer interacts with the audience and conveys messages through different stories or poetry are a great medium to enhance social connection.

Some dance forms are only a medium of entertainment whereas, some create an impact on the audience by portraying a message.

However, it is the dancer’s skill to make their performance relatable and engage their audience throughout the dance performance.

Festivals

The main motto of celebrating different festivals is to build social connections and dance together and build a community. Ganpati festival, Navratri, Baisakhi, Onam, Eid, Christmas, and Novroz all the festivals have proven that celebrating together and dancing together for diverse celebrations builds a bond between family, friends, and society.

Final Words

As a dance blogger, I have always believed that dance is not just a form of art or a source of celebration. It is a path that travels towards the almighty, and a route towards Salvation. When I have seen a number of Veteran dancers and Gurus performing on the stage they always have connected the audience to the almighty. Their gestures, movements, and expressions have taken us on a stroll with them in the world of the almighty. It is so enchanting when the entire audience coming from the versatile background is focused on just one story.

Long story short, Art forms like Music art and Dance needs no words to express, needs no Stereotype to discriminate.
