A dancer influences their charisma with their gestures and movements. But, what if the dancer is a great comperer? In this blog, I m sharing some simple compering tips for any dancer who can try once for an impactful performance.

Write down the lyrics of your song: Compering basic tip

You must be thinking that the writer has gone cuckoo. But trust me, performing the dance with the same music and writing on a piece of paper for compering links is a completely different scenario.

Writing the text on a piece of paper will give you a visual impact to know about the song more. You will understand the depth of the verse and your thought process will gain momentum.

Start with your research

Once you have your text in front of you, your thought process has begun. Now it is time to research that song. Like, who has written the song, who is the composer, and what culture does it showcase? Or any book from which the lyrics are referred.

This process does take some time. However, your research and depth will in turn demonstrate while you are speaking to the audience.

Moreover, your research will make you more confident to state any fact if it is there in your anchor link.

Observe your word count

Long speeches are always boring for the audience and tiring for the dancer. So, make sure you have a brief and crisp anchor link that will only give the summary of your next performance and not the meaning of the entire performance.

And let the audience guess what you are going to perform next. So, it is always great to add suspense in your link with a brief explanation.

Rehearse compering links during dance rehearsals

Dance and compering rehearsals are equally important. It gives you an idea of whether you are exhausted by multitasking. If yes, you need to manage the compering with some window to normalize your breathing.

Also, avoid reading the anchor links during your performance. By heart them. It is very unethical and boring if a performer blindly reads the anchor links while performing.

Never ever try to lie about the facts. If you are not sure about the fact do not mention them. A false fact can completely ruin your entire performance.

During the performance

It is always best to connect yourself with the audience and make them involved in your performance. Make sure that you are using simple words, not too much of dictionary words. Simple language and simple talk help the audience to divert their attention toward the dancer.

Your voice should be calm and composed. Your speed should be slow yet steady. Also, make eye contact with the audience at least while you are compering. A successful compering skill can definitely boost your performance.

Conclusion

There are very few dancers who are skilled in compering. Obviously, Neither they have any magical wand nor they are bornt experts in this. Communicating with people and adding a perfect anchor link will definitely improve your performance.

I hope these tips will be helpful for all the beginner dancers to improve their compering skills.
