Successful dancer or performer rises from their discipline and dedication to their work. If you are into the field of dance or any performing arts, these basic etiquette tips will help you to be focused and dedicated toward your performance.
Etiquette starts from rehearsals
A dancer must start their discipline routine right from the rehearsals. Rehearsals are not just practicing or reminding the end-to-end performance. But also understanding the mistakes, shortcuts, and plan Bs, and acknowledging the act.
If you are looking for a detailed blog about effective rehearsal strategies, I have written a separate blog. Check this out!
Zone out for at least 12 hours before your performance
It is important to stay away from all distractions for at least 12 hours before your big day. People misunderstand to be a celebrity and through tantrums. No If necessary it is important to communicate.
I’m talking about avoiding unnecessary activities to spend your energy and thoughts.
Stay away from technology gadgets, like mobile phones tablets, and gadgets.
Meditation is a good option to calm your mind and body and keep you focused before the performance.
Apart from that the performer should not roam in the sun or pollution before the performance.
During the performance etiquette
The performer should know each and every technicality before the performance. The lights, dimensions of the stage, sound check, and the distance from the first row of the audience. Every auditorium and its dimensions are different. Before changing or makeup, the performer should check the stage dimensions and check whether there are no obstacles while you are dancing or performing.
Isolate yourself once you have changed into your performance attire
I have seen a number of dancers and performers who keep on wandering in their costumes before performance to meet their family and friends. This is very unethical behavior. Always isolate yourself before you are performing to keep you away from distractions and save your energy for your performance.
Acknowledge off-stage people
This is what I have learned from my Guru. A performer should be polite and kind before performance. And he/she must acknowledge and respect the off-stage employees. They are the synergists who may not be the real performers but help you to elevate your performance.
So, always show respect to make-up artists, musicians, lightmen, soundmen, and set designers.
Your gratitude and respect will help these people to work efficiently and bring your performance to the top level.
Post performance etiquette
The etiquette does not end after the performance. Post-performance acknowledgment is highly important. Here, the real humanity test begins. A dancer or performer must meet the audience, and show gratitude towards their feedback.
Both Positive and negative, a performer must not immediately react to the response. A performer should first thank the audience for their feedback and if it is a suggestion or a negative feedback one should assure the audience to think over their suggestion or apologize for any inconvenience.
A performer may also assure the audience to convey their message to the respected authority. This not only makes you a great performer but also a kind human being.
