Before you start and noting down all the points I would like to mention that my First ever Merchandise is now available on amazon. A Beautiful Paper back diary with dance. If you want to order your copy, Click on this Link.

Before Dance Workshop

Before you organize a dance workshop, it is highly important to come into people’s eyes. So, the best way to promote is to shoot a dance video of what you are going to teach into a YouTube video or an Instagram reel and let it go viral. Once your two to three dance videos are seen by the masses you will automatically get students.

You can easily promote one of your dance videos as a workshop.

For classical dancers same goes, where you can promote a dance item and then promote your workshop, where you can also mention that you will provide the audio and notations of the dance item. Some traditional dance items are very difficult to find. So, this is a great way to provide service to a large number.

Location

Always choose a reputed and famous dance studio. Every studio takes bookings for at least two months in advance. For the dance workshop understand your song duration and analyse how much time is going to be required to teach and rehearse the routine. Usually, two and a half hours session is more than enough.

If you are planning to open your own dance studio, I have written another blog where every aspect is mentioned in detail. Here’s the link.

Budget

If you are planning a workshop on a very beginner’s level and don’t have much funds to invest always go for a studio which is reputed yet a smaller one. Once your dance workshop students’ number starts growing, you can book a bigger hall.

Promotion

Promotion is a very important part where you have to be very creative. So, there simplest and free tool that you can use is Canva. It has so many attractive templates where you can add your photograph and create an Instagram post. Make sure that you post your workshop at least 15 days, where people can register and you’ll get a rough idea of how many people are going to attend.

When to schedule a dance Workshop
Usually, the dance workshops should be organized on weekends where maximum students can attend. If you are going to teach some special item like Garba, or Ganesh Chaturthi special, schedule your dance workshop 15 days before the special occasion.

Fees

Fees completely depend on how much money you have invested in a workshop. If you are a beginner I would recommend charging less and once you start growing as a dance teacher then you can charge for more. But make sure you should charge at least at a breakeven point in the beginning. You can also offer group discounts. The best occasion to offer group discounts is during the wedding season so that groups can enroll in your workshop for sangeet choreographies!

Two days before the dance Worskshop

Now you have a small idea of how many students have enrolled in your workshop, then send a small reminder two days before your workshop, so that students will be excited to learn dance from you. Some dance teachers also ask for a dress code or color code for your dance costumes. It is not necessary to ask for a dress code, but sometimes it is fun to wear the costumes and dance.

If possible book an amateur videographer, who can shoot your workshop and document your event.

During the dance workshop

Now your D-day has arrived. Reach the studio before time, where you can interact with your students. Start with a small prayer and warmup. Ask the videographer to take some snippets while teaching and interacting with your students. Once you have taught your dance sequence and rehearsed several times, you can allow your students to make reels and take photos while you are performing. It is a great way to promote your upcoming workshops.

At the end, ask for their feedback and promise them another workshop with a new dance routine and song.

After dance workshop

Once your dance workshop is successfully over, do not hesitate to post your dance video snippets and photos on Social media, and repost if any of your student has posted.
